# Installing MxMC on Linux with Wine

Wine is neither an emulator nor a virtualisation solution. The project has set itself the task of recreating the Windows environment, including all the necessary libraries for Windows software. It allows the MOBOTIX MxMC to be installed on a Linux environment. These instructions show this step by step.

### Disclaimer

MOBOTIX AG officially offers MxMC only for the Windows and Mac operating systems. The use with Wine is an alternative for all users who are familiar with Linux and the limitations of Wine. Support requests can therefore not be handled by MOBOTIX AG.

> In the MOBOTIX community, however, this is a welcome contribution that will find its supporters!

### What is required:

- MxManagementCenter 2.9.1 (or newer): [https://www.mobotix.com/en/node/20442](https://www.mobotix.com/en/node/20442)
- Linux Mint 22 Wilma (operating system based on Ubuntu) Download: [https://linuxmint.com/](https://linuxmint.com/)
- Etcher (to create a bootable USB stick, not required if you are running a virtual machine like VM Ware) Download: [https://etcher.balena.io/](https://etcher.balena.io/)

### Step-by-step instructions

1. Download Linux Mint 22.
Linux Mint comes in the form of an ISO image (an .iso file) that can be used to create a bootable DVD or a bootable USB stick.
2. Download Etcher or similar software to create a bootable USB stick.
3. Follow the Etcher installation and configuration instructions
4. Insert the stick into your PC or start the ISO image if you are using a virtual machine.

> MxManagementCenter will run on Linux with Wine: In my case Opensuse Leap 15.3 with Wine 8.0, all from the official Opensuse suppositories. Initially, there was an error message concerning “msvcp140.dll”. The .dll was installed with wine out of the box, but it needed a change of attributes in the wine configuration menu: it hat to be changed to “native, builtin”: [grafik]
