Real-world image data helps MOBOTIX train, validate and continuously improve AI object recognition models for the detection of persons and vehicles.
If you would like to support us with recordings from your installation, please follow the recommendations below.
What data is useful?
Please provide recordings from situations that naturally occur during normal operation.
There is no need to create or stage special test scenarios. Typical recordings of persons and vehicles are valuable, while naturally occurring edge cases are especially useful, for example:
- Partially occluded persons or vehicles
- Several persons close together
- Small or distant persons or vehicles
- Objects partly visible at the image border
- Unusual viewing angles or poses
- Different vehicle sizes and types
- Strong shadows, backlight or low-light conditions
- Rain, fog or other difficult visibility conditions
- Known false detections or missed detections
Scenes without persons or vehicles are also useful.
Where available, please provide recordings from both daytime and nighttime operation.
The goal is not to artificially create as many scenarios as possible. Real conditions from your actual installation are most valuable.
Recording configuration
Before collecting the material, please configure the recording as follows:
| Setting | Required configuration |
|---|---|
| Recording image | Full Image Recording |
| Resolution | Minimum Full HD (1920 × 1080) |
| JPEG quality | 60% or higher |
| Recording rate | 4–8 images/frames per second |
| Overlays | Disabled |
| Bounding boxes / analytics visualization | Disabled |
| Recording length | Approx. 5 seconds per recording |
| Format | Preferably MXG; common video formats such as MP4 are also accepted |
The recording must contain the original full camera image.
Please do not crop, resize, filter, sharpen, enhance or otherwise post-process the material.
Specific requirements may vary depending on the type of sensor unit used (e.g., hemispheric, thermal).
Keep the real camera setup
Apart from the recording settings above, keep the camera as close as possible to its normal operating configuration.
Please do not:
- Change the mounting position specifically for data collection
- Change the viewing angle only to create additional examples
- Artificially position persons or vehicles
- Artificially change lighting or environmental conditions
Naturally occurring edge cases are highly valuable. Artificially staged test scenes are generally less representative of the conditions the AI model needs to handle in the field.
How much material is needed?
Quality and variation are more important than quantity.
A number of short recordings from different real situations is sufficient. Avoid sending large amounts of nearly identical material.
Useful material can include:
- Normal everyday scenes
- Different persons and vehicles
- Scenes without relevant objects
- Day and night recordings
- Naturally occurring edge cases
Include a Camera Report
Please include a current MOBOTIX Camera Report from the camera used for the recordings.
The Camera Report provides MOBOTIX with the relevant information about the camera hardware and its current configuration and should be submitted together with the recordings.
Privacy and data protection
Please only provide recordings that you are authorized to collect and share with MOBOTIX.
The customer providing the material is responsible for ensuring that the collection and transfer of the image or video data complies with all applicable privacy, data protection and other legal requirements.
Uploading the material
Once the recordings and Camera Report are ready, MOBOTIX will provide you with acess to a dedicated MOBOTIX Share for secure transfer on request.
Please upload the original recordings and the corresponding Camera Report to the provided share.
Thank you for supporting the continuous improvement of MOBOTIX AI.
