MOBOTIX ONE Dual Extrem - IK10 meets Tractor

How do you actually explain IK10? Sometimes, apparently, with a tractor.

The data sheet is clear: The sensor modules of the MOBOTIX S ONE Dual meet the IK10 standard and are therefore designed for very high mechanical durability.

IK10 is, of course, based on a clearly defined and standardized testing procedure. Technically correct—but admittedly not necessarily the image that immediately sticks in your mind.

And that’s exactly what we discussed as a team:
How can we demonstrate ruggedness in a way that people not only understand it but actually see it?

At some point, someone said:

“What actually happens if we drive a tractor over it?”

Well… maybe you shouldn’t ask questions like that in a meeting where a tractor happens to be available. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

So we gave it a try.

We placed a MOBOTIX S ONE Dual sensor module on the floor, turned on the camera—and then the tire rolled over it.

Not just once.

And because someone would probably shout “Fake!” at this point, we filmed the action from multiple angles. In addition to the view from the sensor module itself, additional footage clearly shows that the tire tread actually rolls directly over the sensor.

The result impressed even us:
The sensor withstood being run over multiple times and continued to provide images throughout.

IIs this an official MOBOTIX test?
No. Definitely not.

Is “driving a tractor over it” part of the IK10 test?
No, not that either.

And please do not interpret this video as an invitation to try this yourself. Vehicles, heavy loads, and camera equipment are a combination where safety is far more important than a spectacular video.

But as a small, deliberately unconventional demonstration, the clip shows something that’s hard to convey on a spec sheet:

These small sensor modules are surprisingly rugged.

And sometimes it takes more than just a number to really bring “Built for tough environments” to life.

MOBOTIX S ONE Dual – small sensor. Tough character.
