I have a Mobotix One S1A-D Camera. I attached an 8DN040 Sensor to it, but it does not work. When I check the hardware status, it recognizes the Serial number of the sensor but says “Incompatible Optical Image Sensor” According to the manual, the 8DN040 is supposed to be compatible with the Mobotix One S1A-D camera.

All of the help guides say something similar to the following:

- Open the camera’s web interface and navigate to **Admin Menu \> Hardware Configuration \> Image Sensor Configuration** (or **Manage Sensor Modules** ).

I cannot find that “Image Sensor Configuration” option anywhere. Any suggestions?

Hello hteedwards,

I would check two things first:

1. **Check the full part number on the sensor module** , not just “8DN040”.
If the sensor is labeled `Mx-O-M7SA-8DN040`, it is the older MOBOTIX 7 version and is not the correct module for the S1A-D. For the S1A-D you need [Mx-ONE-SMA-8DN040](https://www.mobotixstore.com/en/catalog/Products--cMOBOTIX/Optics/ONE-Sensor-Modules-4K/MOBOTIX-ONE-4K-Sensor-module--hOPTI_S_ONE_4K360/MOBOTIX-ONE-120-4K-D-N-Sensor-Module-WIDE--p20.104.295-01).
2. **Check the firmware version of the camera.**
S1A-D support was introduced with MX-System 9.1.2.16. [The latest version is the 9.1.3.7](https://www.mobotix.com/en/node/20754), i would update it to the latest available version before troubleshooting further.

Since the camera is already able to read and display the sensor module’s serial number, communication with the module appears to be working.

The message **“Incompatible Optical Image Sensor”** therefore makes me suspect that the sensor is being detected, but that the sensor type itself is not supported by the camera or firmware.

So the first thing I would verify is the complete part number printed on the sensor module.

I hope this helps, bye Jörg

Thank you for the extra information.

1. According to the order form, these are MX-ONE-SMA-8DN040 sensors. When looking at the sensor themselves, the only identifying numbers are the serial number and the “8DN040” number. Unfortunately, I threw out the original boxes as I was putting them in a turret mount and did not catch the issue until after the trash was gone. The attached image are the numbers with the Serial number blanked out.

2. I checked the firmware and I am using the latest version you referenced.

I agree that the message sounds like they are talking, just not compatible. Any other suggestions?

Thank you again for helping me troubleshoot this. We have sent this back to our supplier to see if they have suggestions as well.

Thank you for all the help with this.

We have confirmed with our seller that these are the Mx-O-M7SA-8DN040 model sensors that are designed for an M74. We are working with them to get them returned and new ones shipped out.

Good call Jörg! Thanks again!

Just one additional note that may help others identify the correct sensor module:

The marking directly on the sensor, for example **8DN040** or **8DN100** , does not identify the camera family. This designation describes the optical sensor/lens variant – **8 MP Day/Night** and the corresponding focal length.

Since equivalent resolution and lens variants are available for both MOBOTIX ONE and MOBOTIX 7, you can find, for example:

- **MOBOTIX ONE:** `Mx-ONE-SMA-8DN100`
- **MOBOTIX 7:** `Mx-O-M7SA-8DN100`

The **full order number is printed on the packaging** , so this is the most reliable way to verify which version you have.

**Example for the ONE Camera**

If the packaging is no longer available, the modules can also be distinguished visually. The newer **MOBOTIX ONE sensor module has a redesigned front** , including the characteristic eyelid-shaped element and a different LED arrangement compared with the M7 version.

**Image Sensor for the ONE Camera:**

**Image Sensor for the M74 Camera**

This is worth checking when the camera recognizes the sensor and displays its serial number, but reports **“Incompatible Optical Image Sensor.”**
