MOBOTIX Cloud - Two Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication (2FA)
sometimes referred to as two-step verification or dual-factor authentication , is a security process in which users provide two different authentication factors to verify themselves.

Two-factor authentication adds an additional layer of security to the authentication process by making it harder for attackers to gain access to a person’s devices or online accounts because, even if the victim’s password is hacked, a password alone is not enough to pass the authentication check.

With Two Factor Authentication, an MOBOTIX CLOUD account can only be accessed on a trusted device. When a user wants to log into a new device for the first time, the user will need to provide two pieces of information – a password and a four-digit security code. The security code must be obtained via a trusted phone number or an email address.

Once signed in, the MOBOTIX CLOUD user will not be asked for a security code on the authenticated device again unless the user signs out completely, deletes the device, or needs to change the password for security purposes. To ensure your security, MOBOTIX AG recommends using Two Factor Authentication on every account.

To enable this feature, open “My Profile” located in the upper right corner of the MOBOTIX CLOUD web interface:

If a phone number has not been added, you will have to use your email to receive your Security Code.

If your phone number is linked to your account, it can also be used to receive your Security Code.

By using the Email you will get a email like the follow example:

When a new user is added to an MOBOTIX CLOUD account, an email is sent to the potential new user to verify their address. To create their account, the potential new user must click the “Set Password” link in the email. Once they have entered and submitted their new password, the new user is signed in without an additional Security Code. In this case, the link in the email is used in place of the Security Code. Two Factor Authentication will resume as normal the next time the user logs in.

If a user does not enter the correct security code after four attempts, their account will automatically be disabled and an email notification will be sent to the user’s email address.

Note: If you add your device to the Trusted Devices, it will appear in the section Trusted Devices in the Web User Interface under “My Profile”:

Adding a Phone Number

Note: MOBOTIX CLOUD does not allow two changes at once time. Users cannot enable Two Factor Authentication and add a phone number simultaneously. We recommend adding your phone number first.

Under “My Profile” (as seen above) enter the country code and phone number as the SMS phone. Don’t forget to save your changes.

To verify your phone number, enter your password and submit. This will send a Security Code to your phone in a text
