About
The Kepler NurseAssist app evaluates the current room situation and generates alarm or status messages according to the active license and configured detection periods.
This article explains the expected behavior of each available feature, including:
- required preconditions,
- the conditions under which a message is generated,
- expected limitations.
Detection durations mentioned below are configurable unless stated otherwise.
Basic License Features
Fall Detected
When the alarm is invoked
The alarm is generated when at least one person is lying or sitting on the floor for the configured period of time.
Not part of the feature
Crouching, kneeling and crawling are not covered. These situations are therefore not guaranteed to trigger an alarm.
In Bed
When the status is invoked
The status is generated when one or more persons are lying in the bed for the configured period of time.
For this feature, “lying in bed” means:
- the person’s torso is on the bed,
- the feet are largely inside the configured bed area,
- no Fall Detected event is active.
Not part of the feature
Sitting in bed or leaning on the bed is not classified as In Bed.
Not In Bed
When the status is invoked
The status is generated when one or more persons are:
- neither on the floor,
- nor lying in the bed as defined above,
or when no person is visible in the room.
Extended License Features
The Extended License adds more detailed situation classification and preventive care events.
Sitting on Floor
When the alarm is invoked
The alarm is generated when at least one person is sitting on the floor for the configured period of time.
Not part of the feature
Crouching, kneeling and crawling are not guaranteed to trigger this alarm.
Bed Not Visible
When the alarm is invoked
The alarm is generated when the bed is:
- missing from the image,
- largely occluded, or
- no longer recognizable.
Typical causes include an object blocking the sensor view or insufficient image quality caused by incorrect settings.
Sitting on Edge of Bed
When the alarm is invoked
The alarm is generated when a person is sitting on the edge of the bed with their feet largely outside the configured bed area for the defined period of time.
Not part of the feature
The event does not apply when:
- the person is sitting at the side of the bed but their feet remain largely inside the bed area,
- the person is lying in bed while their feet are outside the bed area.
Out of Bed
When the status is invoked
The status is generated when the person remains visible for the configured period of time and is not classified as:
- In Bed,
- Sitting on Edge of Bed,
- Fall Detected,
- Getting Up in Bed.
Out of Room
When the status is invoked
The status is generated when the person:
- is not visible for the configured period of time,
- is not lying in bed while concealed by a blanket,
- has not entered the bathroom.
“Not visible” can also mean that the person is still inside the room but is completely hidden behind large furniture.
Related classifications
- When the person is lying in bed and concealed by a blanket, the status remains In Bed.
- When the person leaves the visible room area through the bathroom entrance, the status becomes In Bathroom.
Entering Room
Prerequisite
No person has been visible in the room for a defined period of time. This also means that no person has been detected in bed while concealed by a blanket.
When the alarm is invoked
The event is generated when a person enters the previously empty room and remains visible for the configured period of time.
In Bathroom
When the status is invoked
The status is generated when a person enters the bathroom, becomes no longer visible and remains there for the configured period of time.
Not part of the feature
The status is not generated while the person remains visible after entering the bathroom.
Multiple-person behavior
While one person is classified as being in the bathroom, another person entering and subsequently leaving the room may cause the status to change to Out of Room, even though the first person is still in the bathroom.
Getting Up in Bed
Prerequisite
The person has been lying in the bed for at least one minute.
When the alarm is invoked
The alarm is generated when the person remains in a state between lying in bed and leaving the bed for the configured period of time.
This may include:
- sitting up in bed without supporting the body with the elbows,
- sitting in bed,
- crawling on hands and knees in bed,
- sitting on the edge of the bed,
- attempting to leave the bed.
Relation to Sitting on Edge of Bed
When the person remains on the edge of the bed for the configured Sitting on Edge of Bed duration, the corresponding alarm is generated.
Not part of the feature
Movements between lying and sitting, such as leaning on the bed, are not guaranteed to trigger the alarm.
Getting Up from Chair
Prerequisites
- Only one person is visible.
- The person has been sitting on a chair, sofa or wheelchair for a defined period of time.
When the alarm is invoked
The alarm is generated when the person stands up, possibly begins to move and does not sit down again within the configured period of time.
Important Interpretation Notes
The messages describe the situation detected by the c ONE NurseAssist analytics under the defined conditions. Activities listed as not part of the feature are outside the intended detection behavior and are therefore not guaranteed to generate an alarm.
For reliable operation, the relevant detection periods, bed area and room configuration must be adapted to the individual installation and care workflow.
