New firmware 5.1.0.x: force password change

The new GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), currently enforced in Europe, raises the bar for the minimum cyber security requirements. In order to increase protection for any potential target, the user should be now forced to change the password of his devices (i.e. MOBOTIX Camera) during the first installation.

With the new firmware 5.1.0.x, MOBOTIX cameras comply to such a requirement. In fact, when you access the web GUI (Graphical User Interface) for the first time, the camera will prompt a message that invites you to change the default password:

Note: make sure you store your password in a safe place. If the password is lost, it won’t be possible to reset it autonomously and MOBOTIX Support shall be contacted.

All you need to do is to type a new password, type it again for confirmation and press the “Check and apply…” button. The camera will validate the new password and write it into its configuration file.

How to create a strong password:

• Use 8 or more characters (up to 99)
• At least one upper-case character
• At least one lower-case character
• At least one digit
• At least one special character: ! “ # $ % & ’ ( ) * + , - . / : ; < = > ? @ [ \ ] ^ _ `{ | } ~
• Avoid common words and dates

If everything goes well, you should receive a confirmation message:
