T26 – Choppy playback of recorded events on MxDisplay and MOBOTIX LIVE

I’m currently trying to understand a playback issue with a MOBOTIX T26 and I would appreciate some feedback from users who have experience with this model.

Hardware: last firmware
– MOBOTIX T26
– MxDisplay (latest firmware)
– MOBOTIX LIVE app (Android)

Problem:
Playback of recorded events/videos is not fluid (stuttering / skipped frames).
The playback of recorded events is affected.

Observations so far: Same behaviour on both MxDisplay and MOBOTIX LIVE, which suggests it may come from the camera side.

Question:
Which parameters on a T26 actually influence smooth playback of recorded events?
Is this linked to the internal event recording mode rather than RTP streaming?

Thank you in advance for any insight or shared experience,

There are multiple things, that affect recording framerate. But i would start by checking what resolution you are recording (and if full image recording is active). Also if motion detection is activated.

I checked the Recording dialog. The camera is set to Event Recording with audio.
Start Recording is triggered only by camerabellbutton and Retrigger is also limited to this signal.

Full Image Recording is enabled at 6 MP with 90 % JPEG quality.

That will give you 10fps max.

Also i found difference between 70% and 80% in quality to be minimal and 90% basically being placebo option.

6MP on fish eyes is useless as difference between that and 5mp are black bars on the side of image

You could save on bandwidth with these two options.

If you would set live to 5mp as well, as disable full image recording, you’d get few more fps. Also be sure to check if PoE is set to class 3. Activating High sensitivity MxPEG could also reduce perceived stuttering.

Hello,

Thank you for your help and for the suggested changes.

After applying these settings, the playback of recorded events is now working much better in the MxBell app. The clips play smoothly and the issue seems to be resolved there.

However, on the MXDisplay the problem still occurs. When playing a recorded event, the behavior is the following:

  • the image often remains frozen

  • the audio continues normally

  • after a few seconds the video suddenly plays very quickly to catch up

  • then the image freezes again

So the playback becomes a sequence of freeze → fast catch-up → freeze.

On my side, I will try lowering the recording parameters (resolution and FPS) to the minimum values. If the playback becomes smooth on the MXDisplay, I will then increase them step by step to find the highest settings that still provide acceptable fluidity, in case the limitation comes from the MXDisplay decoding capability.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Hello Adem,

Playback is handled directly by the camera. The configured image settings influence camera performance, which can affect playback speed and the overall playback performance in MOBOTIX Display and the MOBOTIX LIVE App.

Another factor that impacts playback speed in the Display and LIVE App is the network connection speed.

For a T26, I recommend using the following settings:

Image settings

  • JPEG quality: 60% (default value)

Image size (when using MOBOTIX LIVE App and Display with full image recording):

  • Live image size: VGA or HD (better suited to the screen size of the devices)
  • Full image recording: QXGA with 60% JPEG quality

These settings provide a fast live view on your devices and allow playback in fisheye mode without missing any details , while maintaining an optimal balance between image quality and playback speed.

Since you mentioned that the playback speed is now working well in the LIVE App, I would recommend checking the network connection of the MOBOTIX Display . Based on your description, this could indicate a network issue. Please verify the WLAN connection or the Ethernet cabling of the Display .

Best regards Jörg
