Access the camera from Mobotix Live app

I’m trying to use the Mobotix Live Android app with my camera. The app repeatedly tries to connect (displaying a spinner) and fails (the spinner turns into the “forbidden sign”). I tried connecting over my local network (both HTTP and HTTPS) and over the public internet (only HTTPS because only port 443 is forwarded on the router), both using the slightly restricted account and the admin account, but no combination works. At the same time I can enter the same addresses in my phone’s browser and access the camera using the same credentials, it just works. How can I fix it? Does the app store any logs and how can I access them to see if there are any useful errors? The browser access is nice to get a live view on my phone, but it’s not a good replacement for the app that can monitor events and show notifications.

My camera model is Mx-MD1A-5-IR with firmware mb20250625NX, the app version is 2.7.2f102.

Hello Igor,

access via Browser use the Faststream connection of the Camera and the Live App use the bidirectional Eventstream connection. Depending on your Camera settings , user rights etc, may you have no access to the Eventstream.

May you can try two things:

  1. Try to connect as camera Admin via the Live App
  2. Connect the camera via the MxMC with your PC by using the same address (URL) as you use with the Live App.

MxMC is using as well the Eventstream by default.

How you was adding the camera to your Live APP? Did you was able to find the camera in the app or did you try to add the camera manually to your Live APP.

Based on your description that you are connected locally with the Live App to the camera, you should be in the same network as the camera and the Live App would found the camera via the automatic Search function in the APP.

May you can describe your behaviour more in detail and how your Network is setup.

I’ve tried connecting both as admin and as a more restricted user via the Live App, it made no difference.

I’ve connected via MxMC from my PC and it worked well. The app automatically found the camera in the local network and I was able to log in as admin.

  • It works with protocols “MOBOTIX MOVE” and “ONVIF”, but it doesn’t work with “MOBOTIX”, “MOBOTIX with PelcoD”, “Axis PTZ” or “MOBOTIX Face Detection”.
  • All 3 protocols “RTP via TCP”, “RTP via UDP” and “RTP/RTSP via HTTP” worked.
  • Authentication worked for both “Username Token” and “Digest”.
  • Enabling “SSL” worked, but the app required accepting a self-signed certificate. This was expected because I generated the certificate in the camera settings by clicking “Generate certificate”, so it’s self-signed.

The camera, the PC and the phone’s Wi-Fi are in the same local network, connected to a single router. The router also forwards port 443 from the internet directly to the camera. I have a static IP address, both IPv4 and IPv6. I can connect to the camera:

  • Using the browser or MxMC from my PC and entering the local network camera’s address. It works with both HTTP and HTTPS.
  • Using the browser from my phone and entering the local network camera’s address when the phone is connected to the Wi-Fi. It works with both HTTP and HTTPS.
  • Using the browser from my phone and entering my network’s static IP address when the phone is connected to the cellular network. It works only with HTTPS, as only port 443 is forwarded on the router.

Live App can’t automatically find the camera even while the phone is connected over Wi-Fi to the same local network as the camera. I tried adding the camera manually using the camera’s local network address, both with HTTP and HTTPS. I also tried adding the camera using my network’s static IP while the phone is connected over cellular network, with HTTPS. None of it worked.

Hello Igor,

MOBOTIX LIVE App Compatibility

The MOBOTIX LIVE App supports MOBOTIX IoT cameras using the EventStream protocol. It does not support the ONVIF protocol, which is used by MOBOTIX MOVE cameras.

If you are using a MOBOTIX MOVE camera, we recommend one of the following VMS solutions along with their corresponding smartphone apps:

MOBOTIX Cloud

  • Fast & simple setup – add cameras and access them from anywhere.
  • No local server installation required.
  • Ideal for users who prefer ease of use and are comfortable with a monthly subscription.

MOBOTIX HUB

  • For users who prefer to set up and manage everything locally.
  • Offers extensive integration options and scalability.
  • Requires a one-time license payment.

You can choose between:

  • Cloud: Monthly subscription, easy setup, remote access.
  • HUB: One-time payment, full control, advanced integrations.

MOVE Camera Compatibility with Cloud

Depending on your MOVE camera model, it may already support Direct to Cloud.
Please check the *firmware release notes* of your camera to confirm.
If supported, now might be the perfect time to start with MOBOTIX Cloud VMS.
