After restarting, cameras in the Mx4 and Mx5 series display the year 2000 as the system time

Camera system time is set to the year 2000.

The incorrect time can cause various issues, such as recording problems, start-up boot problems (emergency system) or any other issues that require the correct time for communication.

MOBOTIX has already provided a firmware update for this issue.

First, set the camera to the current time and then update the camera firmware.

Camera firmware:

From the release notes 4.7.3.11-r7:

Bug fixes

  • When restarted, the Mx4 and Mx5 camera series were reset to the year 2000.
Since 1 January 2026, the Mx4 and Mx5 camera series have been reset to the year 2000 when restarted without an NTP server.

IMPORTANT - Step-by-step instructions for installing firmware MX‑V4.7.3.11‑r7:

If the camera is operating with the system date set to 2000, the firmware update may abort with the message ‘Fatal: Signatures failed. Aborting.’ In this case, the time must be set correctly once before the update. After the update, the camera may revert to year 2000 again – this is expected and will be corrected afterwards.

  1. Set the time and date before the update
  • Open Admin Menu → Time & Date.
  • Click on ‘Set time to local PC time’.
  • Wait until the setting has been applied.
  1. Update firmware
  • Open Admin Menu → Update System Software.
  • Select the file MX_system_4_7311_r7.mpl.
  • Upload the file and start the update.
  • Restart the camera.
  1. Reset the time and date after the update
5.*Note: After restarting, the camera may start up in the year 2000. This is expected behaviour.
  • Open Admin Menu → Time & Date.
  • Click on ‘Set time to local PC time’ again.
  1. Final restart
  • Open Admin Menu → Restart.
  • Click on ‘Restart Camera’.

RECOMMENDATION: Reset the camera to remove any remaining files from the year 2000:

  • Open the Admin Menu → Reset to Factory Settings
  • Click on ‘Remove Logs’ and confirm.
  • Check the settings for the SD card and MxFFS recording

If you encounter problems:

  • Format the SD card.
  • Delete the MxFFS archive.
  • For classic file server recording with directory structure (NFS or CIFS as primary destination), move the old directory to a new location and start a new recording.
