MOBOTIX Driver for XProtect – THE driver for MOBOTIX cameras
MOBOTIX cameras can be integrated into Milestone XProtect VMS using various drivers.
- via standard ONVIF Driver
- via Mobotix M/D/V/S
- via MOBOTIX Driver for XProtect
Practical tip: when should which driver be used?
- The MOBOTIX driver for XProtect should always be used with ALL modern MOBOTIX cameras.
- For older MOBOTIX IOT models of the Mobotix M/D/V/S
- ONVIF driver only in very rare special cases
The MOBOTIX driver for XProtect
optimally integrates MOBOTIX cameras into Milestone XProtect VMS. This driver is based on the ONVIF standard and has been enhanced with specific adaptations that are not included in the ONVIF standard. This enables optimal integration of MOBOTIX cameras into Milestone XProtect VMS for better use of MOBOTIX DNA.
Key features of the MOBOTIX driver for XProtect for optimal support of MOBOTIX cameras:
- Support for MOBOTIX IOT cameras from the P6 and P7 series (e.g. M16, Q26, P71, M73, etc.)
- Support for MOBOTIX IOT cameras from the P8(ONE) series (e.g. M1A-S etc.)
- Codec support MJPEG, MxPeg and H.264 (H.265 only with P7 cameras) for MOBOTIX IOT cameras
- Codec support for MOVE cameras MJPEG and H.264 / H265
- Dynamic integration of event profiles from MOBOTIX IoT cameras. This simplifies the creation of rules in Milestone XProtect by adopting internal camera-specific profile names such as “Garage Door”. .
- Supports ALL event categories of MOBOTIX IOT cameras, unlike the existing MOBOTIX M/D/V/S driver, which only supports four event categories.
- Integration of the camera SD card
- Prerequisite: ONVIF G support for the camera in question is required and the edge recording settings in the camera must be configured correctly! Applies to P7 and MOVE cameras that are ONVIF G certified and support these SD card modes.
- The following modes are available
- SD card as failover medium. In the event of a failover, the camera will use the SD card for recording and store the data there during the downtime of the recording server. During this downtime, the camera’s streaming profile settings will be used for continuous recording. For IOT cameras, a dedicated streaming profile can be assigned for this case in the Admin menu under Integration Protocol.
- SD card as a buffer medium for time-delayed transmission to relieve the recording server or improve load distribution of Internet bandwidth (e.g. outside opening hours) at distributed locations. *
- Direct SD card access. For use when the camera only stores data on the SD card.* ++
*Special feature when playing back an event-driven recording. In the Desk Client, the timeline is displayed as continuous and the events are not highlighted in colour. To the user, it appears as a continuous recording.
++ Playback with direct SD card access is based on the ONVIF standard as follows. Reverse playback of a video sequence is only possible if the time range is within the video buffer. This requires prior time positioning in the timeline followed by forward playback.
Important information about installation
Important: The “Mobotix Drivers 2023R1 v0.9.9972.msi” must be installed in the Milestone installation folder. During installation, the installation path must be changed, e.g. to "C:\Program Files\Milestone\MIPDrivers\MOBOTIX".
- The system requirements are described in the version notes for the Milestone XProtect VMS software system, which must be installed first.
- Prerequisite for using the new MOBOTIX driver for XProtect:
-
Current camera firmware
-
Milestone XProtect 2023 R1 or newer (older versions have not been explicitly tested)
-
For Milestone XProtect version 2022R3 and earlier, please use the MOBOTIX Driver 2022-R3.
-
For Milestone XProtect version 2023R1 and newer, please use the MOBOTIX Driver 2023R1.
-
We recommend adding cameras to Milestone XProtect using the MOBOTIX Discovery Plugin to enable ONVIF, update firmware or find cameras on the network.
-
After installing the driver, two new driver types are available in Milestone XProtect under the “MOBOTIX” driver branch:
- MOBOTIX IOT Cameras
- MOBOTIX MOVE Cameras
The existing/previous drivers for MOBOTIX can still be selected; the new ones complement the range of drivers.
**Note: For older models such as P2 and P3 MOBOTIX IOT cameras, the existing MOBOTIX M/D/V/S driver must be used.
