MOBOTIX HUB Operator Discovery PlugIn
A quick way to find and add MOBOTIX cameras
For administrators, the Discovery Plugin is an ideal tool for adding new MOBOTIX cameras** to the system more quickly and easily than was previously possible in the HUB Management Client via ‘Add new hardware’.
**Depending on the camera family, two communication methods are available for localising the MOBOTIX cameras in the network.
- the Bonjour service** is a well-known service that is integrated into the MOBOTIX IOT cameras and offers an easy way to identify the MOBOTIX cameras in the physical network.
2 The ONVIF WS Discovery method is the standard search mode for identifying ONVIF cameras, which is supported by the MOBOTIX MOVE cameras.
In the MOBOTIX Operator Discovery Plugin, we have combined these two search methods to generally find the MOBOTIX cameras in the network.
Colour legend:
Grey == Camera not selected
Yellow == Camera is selected
Green == Camera is already added to the MOBOTIX HUB VMS
The advantage of Bonjour Service:
Regardless of the local IP range of the subnet, the cameras are found even if they are located in a different subnet. This allows the administrator to identify the cameras that are available on the physical network and adjust the camera or PC network settings to bring them to the ‘right’ subnet. They can then add them to the HUB using the Discovery Tool.
The limitation of ONVIF WS detection:
This search looks for devices in the same subnet and is not able to find cameras in the same physical network regardless of the subnet address.
The MOBOTIX Operator Discovery offers the following functions at a glance
Discovery:
- Find MOBOTIX MOVE cameras in the same subnet
- Find MOBOTIX IOT cameras in all subnets of the same physical network (regardless of the cameras’ network settings)
Activate ONVIF service
In order to fully utilise all functions of the MOBOTIX cameras, it is recommended to integrate the MOBOTIX cameras with the MOBOTIX driver. To do this, ONVIF mode must be activated in the MOBOTIX cameras. This mode is always active for the MOBOTIX MOVE cameras, whereas the ONVIF mode must first be activated by the user in the web interface for the MOBOTIX IOT cameras. The Discovery PlugIn offers to activate ONVIF mode for the selected cameras in the initial case (camera out of the box case).
- for the MOBOTIX IOT cameras (ONVIF is always activated for MOBOTIX MOVE)
Set password of the camera
-
Change the initial password of the cameras (out of the box case) for the admin user. Out of the Box == admin:meinsm
The password for the camera user ‘admin’ can also be changed later at any time using the Discovery PlugIn, even if it is no longer the initial password for the camera ‘meinsm’. If the cameras have already been added to the MOBOTIX HUB VMS, the password of the cameras can be changed later. The password stored in the MOBOTIX HUB is updated automatically. Helpful function if the camera passwords have to be changed regularly to comply with the current company security rules.
**Simply add cameras
- Add cameras to the HUB recording server
Firmware-Update
In the first version of the Discovery PlugIn, it is possible to update the firmware of the MOBOTIX IOT cameras and some of the MOVE cameras. Other MOVE models will also be possible in the future, currently they can be updated via the ‘standard ONVIF firmware update function’ of the MOBOTIX HUB (assumes that the corresponding model supports this ONVIF firmware).
Manage camera passwords
In the MOBOTIX Discovery PlugIn, the access data for the cameras can be stored in the ‘Manage Credentials’ dialogue. These stored credentials are only used in the Discovery PlugIn environment for firmware updates and activation of ONVIF mode.
Open camera in browser
Right-click on a camera in the list to open a browser window with the selected camera. Helpful for specific camera settings before adding them to the MOBOTIX HUB VMS.
Multiselection: If several cameras are selected, a browser window opens for each camera!
Known limitations:
- Cameras are only added to the hub system with the MOBOTIX Driver
- IoT cameras that do not yet support ONVIF are displayed in the list, but cannot be added to the MOBOTIX HUB system.
- Password change of MOVE cameras is not yet supported for the initial case (out of the box) (admin:meinsm). The system administrator must first change the password in the browser. After that, the password change function can be used at any time via the Discovery PlugIn!
- IoT cameras can only be added to the MOBOTIX HUB with active ONVIF mode
- Discovery function is only available from MOBOTIX HUB L3 and higher.
The following MOVE cameras are currently not yet supported or only supported to a limited extent:
Turret Cameras:
- VT1A-2-IR
- VT1A-5-IR
- VT1A-203-IR
- VT1A-503-IR
Multisensor Camera
- VMSD1A-20-VA
Basic requirement:
- MOBOTIX HUB VMS L3 or higher
- MOBOTIX HUB PlugIn´s (Operator included Discovery)
- MOBOTIX HUB Device driver must be installed
- Cameras Firmware should be up to date!
