C ONE NurseAssist White Light: Purpose, quick activation and flexible event control

Introduction

The integrated White Light of the MOBOTIX c ONE (NurseAssist) can provide immediate visual illumination in the room when an alarm or defined event occurs, helping residents and caregivers orient themselves quickly. It can also be used as a discreet night light to improve visibility and safety without requiring the main room lighting.
Starting with the initial c ONE firmware v8.2.2.5, the factory configuration includes a prepared Emergency Light workflow. It is disabled by default and can be enabled quickly from the sensor’s web UI or through an authenticated request from a third-party system.

Why the workflow is disabled by default

The intended function has a significant and visible impact on the environment in which c ONE NurseAssist is used and on the residents it is designed to protect. It is therefore prepared to intentionally integrate the feature into the client’s (existing) workflows and activate it on demand.

Caution: The “Emergency Light Workflow On” softbutton arms the prepared event logic. The White Light is switched on only when the assigned and enabled sensor event occurs and the sensor is in night mode.

Requirements

  • Administrative access to the camera web interface. In the factory configuration, the relevant settings require the Admin account.
  • For the prepared NurseAssist use case: A licensed, activated and configured Kepler NurseAssist app.
  • The “Fall_Detected” Message Event must be enabled. The profile is prepared in the factory configuration but disabled by default.
  • HTTPS access to the camera when a third-party system is used to control the workflow.

Enable the prepared Emergency Light Workflow

The prepared action group is named “NurseAssist_EmergencyLight”. Its default trigger is the “Fall_Detected” Message Event generated by the Kepler NurseAssist app. Enabling the general Kepler NurseAssist event profile alone is not sufficient for this action: the dedicated “Fall_Detected” Message Event must also be set to active.

  1. Open the Message Events dialog. Go to Setup Menu > Event Control > Event Overview > Message Events.
  2. Select the prepared profile. Open the “Fall_Detected” Message Event.
  3. Enable the event by changing the profile state from inactive to active and apply the setting.
  4. Enable the workflow by selecting “Emergency Light Workflow On” softbutton in the sensor’s live view (see image attached).
  5. Verify the behavior. Trigger a controlled test event in night mode and verify the White Light, the blue signal LEDs and the expected two-minute reset.

Night-mode condition: The factory-prepared workflow uses activation condition ac1. This condition evaluates the camera’s day/night state through the IR-cut status and permits the Emergency Light action in night mode.

Use the new softbuttons in the web UI

The camera live view contains two new entries in the softbutton panel:

  • Emergency Light Workflow On enables the prepared action group with its night-mode condition.
  • Emergency Light Workflow Off disables the action group again.

These controls change the workflow state. When the workflow is disabled, subsequent “Fall_Detected” events do not trigger the White Light action.

Control the workflow from a third-party system

A third-party system can call the same sensor commands assigned to the two softbuttons. This allows an authorized nurse call, alarm or video management system to enable or disable the prepared workflow without opening the sensor’s web interface.

Enable the workflow with the night-mode condition:

https://<CAMERA-IP>/control/control?set&section=actionhandler&ah3_arming=ac1

Disable the workflow:

https://<CAMERA-IP>/control/control?set&section=actionhandler&ah3_arming=disable

The request must be authenticated by the sensor. The factory configuration requires Admin credentials for these settings. Use HTTPS and do not transmit or store credentials in clear text. Whether a dedicated account with more restricted permissions can be used should be verified against the authorization design of the individual installation.

Important Integration note: ah3 identifies the position of the action group in the checked factory configuration. If action groups have been added, removed or imported, verify the current parameter in the camera configuration before hard-coding the request in a third-party system.

What happens when a fall is detected

Once enabled, the “NurseAssist_EmergencyLight” action group monitors the active “Fall_Detected” Message Event. If the event occurs while the camera is in night mode, the “EmergencyLightOn” Signal Out profile switches on the integrated White Light LEDs for two minutes. The duration corresponds to the prepared two-minute visual alarm controlling the blue signal LEDs on the sensor in parallel.

The default Power Level is 15%. It can be reduced or increased in Admin Menu > Hardware Configuration > Signal Out Profiles by editing the “EmergencyLightOn” profile. Test any change at the actual installation site, because the appropriate level depends on room size, surface reflections, camera position and the operating environment.

Switch the light off early with Acknowledge

The active alarm can be acknowledged before the two-minute period expires. Selecting “Acknowledge” switches off both the blue signal LEDs and the White Light early. Test this behavior again after making any project-specific changes to the action groups or Signal Out profiles.

Use White Light with other sensor events

The prepared NurseAssist workflow is a starting point. White Light can also be combined with other sensor events, provided that these events are correctly configured and enabled. The light itself is not defined as an event. Instead, the existing “EmergencyLightOn” Signal Out profile is assigned as an action within an action group.

  1. Prepare the event: Create or enable the required sensor event in Event Overview.
  2. Open the action groups: Go to Setup Menu > Event Control > Action Group Overview.
  3. Assign the trigger: Select the prepared and enabled event as the trigger for the required action group.
  4. Select the White Light action: Assign the “EmergencyLightOn” Signal Out profile to the action group.
  5. Define the reset behavior: Check the required duration, acknowledgement behavior and, where necessary, a separate switch-off action.
  6. Test the complete sequence: Verify the event, action group, illumination and reset under realistic lighting and operating conditions.

This approach allows the integrated White Light to support project-specific processes without requiring the prepared NurseAssist workflow to be changed. The appropriate event selection depends on the site, the intended operating procedure and the applicable privacy requirements.
