To improve / optimize audio quality, below are a few recommendations.
Admin Menu > Speaker and Microphone Settings
Quiet Environment:
If the camera is installed in a quiet environment (very low background noise) a Speaker volume of -9 or -6 and a “Low” microphone sensitivity represent a really good compromise. The echo cancellation should be enabled and the “Ambient noise level” should be set to “Medium” or “High” for better results.
Medium Noisy Environment:
Keep the Microphone sensitivity to “Low” and set the Speaker volume to a value between -3 and 0. Enable the echo cancellation and set the “Ambient noise level” to “High”. The quality of the audio should be still good enough and the echo should be acceptable.
Really Noisy Environment:
Keep the Microphone sensitivity to “Low” and set the Speaker volume to a value between 0 and +6. Enable the echo cancellation and set the “Ambient noise level” to “High”. The quality of the audio might not be excellent because of the background noise and we can expect some echo.
Admin Menu > Edit Configuration
Make the following changes to Section Audio in the Configuration
-
Manually change the parameter APISPEAKERGAIN from the config file (SECTION audio) to 100 (the default value is set to 350)
-
Add the line
AGC_AUTOCONFIG=0
Overloaded Camera Processor
If the above fails to resolve the issue, it could be that the camera’s processor is overloaded. If this is the case, the echo cancellation might get shut off as it is a secondary process. To improve the audio quality it’s thus necessary to reduce the camera’s processor load. You could start with reducing the resolution, frame rate and JPEG quality.
Further Troubleshooting
If all the steps outlined do not significantly improve audio quality, please get in contact with MOBOTIX Support. You will need to provide a full system description, camera report and network trace taken at the time of the call.
